Read a room listing like a local.

Questions that matter more than the most polished photograph.

Hotel listings are built to showcase a property. Your job is to identify what the room will actually feel like for your trip.

Locate the exact room category

Photos may cover many different room classes. Compare the naming, square footage where available, outlook and bedding for the specific rate you would purchase.

Separate facilities from access

A hotel may have a gym, pool or spa but access can carry restrictions or additional fees. Check hours, age rules, reservations and whether facilities are shared.

Read recent reviews by pattern

Look for repeated comments on noise, cleanliness, service and room comfort. One extreme review rarely tells the whole story, and different travellers have different expectations.

Understand the full price

Confirm taxes, breakfast, parking, deposit and any local or property charges. A low base price can be misleading if the additions matter to you.

Match the cancellation conditions to your risk

A flexible rate is not always the cheapest, but may be worthwhile for an uncertain itinerary. Read deadlines in the property’s local time and save the written terms.

Before booking: three actions
  1. Screenshot the precise room category and rate conditions.
  2. Verify facilities you would be disappointed to miss.
  3. Check the hotel’s official site before finalising a booking.

Leave room for your own priorities.

These are prompts, not universal rules. A hotel that suits a traveller with an early train may be less convenient for someone focused on a late-night restaurant scene. Use the same test against your itinerary and read current property information before deciding.
